Odd Roar Lofterød was born in Norway 1915. He grew up in wartime and unemployment. He eventually got a job in a factory that made machines for the clothing industry. With the technical expertise in his pocket, he decided to start his own company in 1946: Odlo Fabrikker A/S. Lofterød was known for his creativity, unconventional thinking and his favorite saying “Be one step ahead.” His son, Odd Roar Junior, was on the Norwegian speed skating team and he designed a special suit made of Helanca material for him. His team and other top athletes were curious and wanted to try this out too.

In 1979 his son took over and in 1987 he introduced the 'three-layer principle': first layer is underwear for moisture regulation, second layer for temperature regulation and third layer protects against rain and wind. In the years that followed, Odlo generated more and more brand awareness thanks to its innovative designs, including: Effect in 2002, prevents unpleasant odors, Cubic in 2006, super-light material for optimal temperature regulation and the renewed Evolution Light in 2008, seamless sports underwear. Odlo's innovative designs and comfortable garments make this a favorite of many different athletes worldwide.
