Material

Recycled Polyester

Polyester is a synthetic material made from petroleum. It is a durable, smooth fabric that feels soft. In addition, it is lightweight, does not need to be ironed and dries quickly. A disadvantage of polyester is that it does not absorb moisture well, is not very warm and does not breathe very well. Polyester is also, like many other materials, harmful to the environment. It is not biodegradable and contributes to the plastic soup in the ocean. However, polyester can be recycled very well. The use of recycled polyester reduces both waste and the dependence on petroleum as a source. Recycled polyester is therefore a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative.

Sustainable production

The North Face has been committed to producing technical clothing without the use of environmentally polluting fluorocarbons (PFCs) since 2015. The use of PFCs in the textile finish ensures that clothing becomes water, dirt and grease repellent. An alternative finish without the use of PFCs has been used in The North Face's technical apparel. This makes the product water and dirt repellent. Only an oil repellent effect cannot currently be achieved with a PFC-free finish. In addition to using a PFC-free finish, The North Face is committed to increasing the use of recycled content, especially recycled polyester. In addition, The North Face has a Blue Sign label.

The BlueSign label indicates that no harmful substances have been used in the production process. Companies with a BlueSign label are obliged to draw up a sustainability plan that pays attention to water consumption, energy consumption and waste management. BlueSign also has guidelines for safe and healthy working conditions, but this is not specifically checked.
